Recently, Sherwin Williams revealed their 2018 color of the year; Oceanside. It’s right up our alley at Coastal Décor because its reminds us of water and adventure. This beautiful blue-green hue is being regarded as a new twist on navy, just like with Benjamin Moore’s Caliente, many of the colors for 2018 are bright and daring in color. Blue is the most beloved color worldwide, making sense it the perfect color for this year. Oceanside is bit mysterious and complex in the way that it can be used to create a space that is energetic and imaginative, but also used in a space that is healing and calm. Its properties allow it to work well painting a room or as an accent in furniture and accessories.
“Caliente is the signature color of a modern architectural masterpiece; a lush carpet rolled out for a grand arrival; the assured backdrop for a book-lined library; a powerful first impression on a glossy front door. The eye can’t help but follow its bold strokes. Harness the vitality.” – Ellen O’Neill, Benjamin Moore & Co.
One of the most unexpected combinations used to be Christmas/holiday decor with nautical decor, since coastal designs are reminiscent of the warmth of the summer. Typically, holiday colors are reds and other bright colors, but today holiday combinations are available in all natural and pretty blues. Which make it easy to stay with the color scheme you may have already established in your home, making it, almost effortlessly to add holiday decor into your house. Resulting in beautiful decorations with elements that can be used year-round. Woven fabrics, seashells, coral, and driftwood work well with evergreens, mercury glass, and even tree ornaments.
Often left out, the ceiling can can have gorgeous architectural potential… As a designer, we look at a room as a whole, what it will be used for and how it will be viewed when you walk in. It used to be that ceilings were just paint “ceiling /designer white” and rarely thought of when creating a design. Now a days the ceiling or the 5th wall, everyone is looking to add some interest when we look up, and why shouldn’t we give each wall, the same amount of attention. There are many ways to add interest to your ceiling, that can enhance or give your home a completely different look.
A child’s bedroom is a great place to let them express their personality, since it is their space after all. Starting with their likes and dislikes, it is easy to set a theme. Yes; just like any fun party, it all starts with a theme. Be creative – it doesn’t even have to be just one theme.. For example, baseball and basketball work well together. So, sticking with a sports theme, team colors can be a great way to help determine which colors to use in their room.
