It’s that time of year again, when the experts name the color of the year.

In the design industry we follow the three biggest companies who set the trends for the “it” color each year…

Pantone, Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams.

The 2019 colors of the year are…

Pantone –  Living Coral 16-1546

Benjamin Moore – Metropolitan AF-690

Sherwin Williams – Cavern Clay SW 7701

If you are unfamiliar with what exactly the color of the year means, here is a bit of background information for you, from Pantone, the company that founded the “color of the year” program…

“For 20 years, Pantone’s Color of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home furnishings, and industrial design, as well as product, packaging, and graphic design.”

“The Color of the Year selection process requires thoughtful consideration and trend analysis. To arrive at the selection each year, Pantone’s color experts at the Pantone Color Institute comb the world looking for new color influences. This can include the entertainment industry and films in production, traveling art collections and new artists, fashion, all areas of design, popular travel destinations, as well as new lifestyles, playstyles, and socio-economic conditions. Influences may also stem from new technologies, materials, textures, and effects that impact color, relevant social media platforms and even upcoming sporting events that capture worldwide attention.”   – Written by Pantone

There are so many ways to utilize these colors in your space, from paint, to fabrics and furniture, to decorative accessories.

Let’s explore some ways to bring some of these trending colors into your home or office. Benjamin Moore’s  Metropolitan AF-690, is “calm, composed and effortlessly sophisticated”, while it also, “exudes glamour, beauty and balance”.
“Metropolitan AF-690 emanates nuance, harmony and extravagant ease. Always adaptable, it softens to matte or shimmers with sheen. It’s neutral. It’s understated. It just is. This is color, off-duty.” —Ellen O’Neill, Benjamin Moore & Co.

The beauty of Metropolitan, is that it can be used anywhere!  It is the perfect combination of ease and elegance. Metropolitan is a soft neutral that works great with our favorite coastal style and all of the  natural and organic materials we love to use. This makes perfect sense why BM would chose a color that compliments the trends going on in the design world today.
