Fall Back in Love with Your Home

I’m sure you loved your home when you first purchased it,  maybe you loved it just the way it was, or are there were a few things you have always wanted to change. Imagine this is the year that we make that happen… that we create a home you will fall back in love with.  We always change our décor for the Holidays, but why not do it per season?

6 Easy Tips and Tricks to fall in love with your home all over again.

1. Pillows are always the easiest way to spruce up a main area, such as your living or family room. Have you looked high and low for the perfect pillow, but still cannot find it? A great option is to have it tailor made. Custom designed pillows will help you to create that perfect “HGTV” look that you see in the magazines. Most soft goods in those photos are specially made, which is how designers attain the perfect color palette. Custom pillows can be more practical in long run, because they always have zippers and a down insert, unless otherwise specified, which makes them easy to be cleaned. Now a day, beautiful fabrics are available in  indoor/outdoor, can be washed or are able to be dry cleaned.

2. Throws are a great way to add color and warmth to a room. A lounge chair instantly looks more inviting when a blanket is draped over it. Throws are also a great way add a pop of color, on your sofa or at the foot of your bed. Having personalized bedding made? Why not have a tailor-made blanket to match for those really cold nights…

3. Paint: Have your walls been the same colors for year? It’s time for an update, so let’s add some color. Don’t be afraid, paint is the least expensive wall covering on the market. If you have children, I always suggest a washable paint finish. Some other ideas for adding color or texture to your walls are wall paper, faux painting, breadboard, a reclaimed wood wall, or create a focal wall.

4.  Art and Wall Décor: When was the last time you changed or moved around your art? Has your style changed? From a more traditional style to a more casual appearance? Maybe those prints from the 80’s or gold frames are no longer working…  just like the fabrics on furniture, artwork can become dated. Don’t want to buy new art? An easy update is to change the frames and/or mats to match your new color palette and décor.

5. Decorations and Accessories: Is another economical approach to transform the look in your home. We switch up our look by over the holidays, so why not during the other seasons of the year? The flowers are starting to bloom in spring showing fun colors outside, so why not bring some of those colors inside. Adding another color to your existing color scheme can brighten up a room. For example, if your primary colors are blue and white add a contrasting color: orange, green or pink work well. During the summer, we tend to be more casual, your décor can reflect that as well. Of course, beachy is always my favorite look and is also the perfect time to display your coral and shells. Another idea

6. Floor Coverings: Most homes today have area rugs. Have you ever considered changing your carpet to give your room a different look? In some spaces the rug can make the most impact, simply because it takes up the most square feet in the room, therefore changing it can make a drastic change. I remember my mom always taking the area rug out of our sun-room for the summer. She thought it made the room feel too heavy, when it was so hot outside. Personally I thought the room was missing something… A area rug anchors the room, otherwise the furniture tends to look like it is floating. Personally, I like having a wool carpet in the winter for warmth and a sisal area rug in the summer.
