We’re looking up at your 5th wall and giving you tips to make your ceiling become more of a focal wall in any room.
Often left out, the ceiling can can have gorgeous architectural potential… As a designer, we look at a room as a whole, what it will be used for and how it will be viewed when you walk in. It used to be that ceilings were just paint “ceiling /designer white” and rarely thought of when creating a design. Now a days the ceiling or the 5th wall, everyone is looking to add some interest when we look up, and why shouldn’t we give each wall, the same amount of attention. There are many ways to add interest to your ceiling, that can enhance or give your home a completely different look.
Paint is the greatest invention and easiest way to add some color to your ceiling. There are multiple ways to use paint, choosing a bolder color, than what is on your walls will bring the ceiling forward, while using a more neutral tone will make it blend into the foreground. Depending on what type of look you are trying to create. keep these tips in mind:
- Painting the ceilings the same color as the rest of the room, will make the room look tied together and uniform, and appear larger. More home owners are choosing light and bright for this exact reason.
- Use a slight variation of the wall color on the ceiling. By choosing a color that is several shades lighter or darker then your wall color, can create an illusion of unified space with more dimension.
- An accent wall can be achieved, by using a completely different color than the rest of the room. When I do an accent wall in a clients home, I like add pops of that color with accessories, art or fabrics.
- A darker ceiling can create a cozy feel, since it is bring the ceiling to the forefront.
