Despite the rainy weather we’ve been experiencing in NJ, spring has finally arrived! This means we’re only a few months away from summer, and over here at Coastal décor, we couldn’t be more excited.
With spring comes Easter, a holiday that means lots of color, candy, and creativity.
Easter also means taking the time to sit down and create colorful eggs with family and friends, yet for those who are growing bored with simply dipping them into dye, we’ve created this simple and easy DIY just for you!
- Plastic Easter Eggs (We found ours at a 5 Below, similar to these)
- Assorted Acrylic Paints
- Gold Acrylic Paint
- A Toothbrush
Step 1: Gather your supplies, and begin painting your eggs with your color of choice. We liked these plastic eggs because of how they opened, making them easy to both paint and dry. Allow the first coat to dry and if needed, then apply a second. We definitely noticed a second coat was needed.
Step 2: Now for the fun part, after your paint is dry, grab your gold paint. Take your toothbrush and dip it in the gold paint generously. Hold the toothbrush in your dominant hand, and run your thumb against the bristles backwards, starting from the top part of the brush. This part is a bit messy, but it’s what will create the gold specks that will add dimension and a bit of bling… and who doesn’t like bling! We did the same thing with a bigger paint brush, for varying specks of gold. Continue until you are happy with the results.
Step 3: Allow all the eggs to fully dry again before putting them back together.
Step 4: Admire your mini masterpieces!
This simple DIY is so easy anyone can do it. We took our finished eggs and added them to pieces from our store to create a centerpiece that would look great in any home.
We love this pretty take on classic Easter eggs with the subtle gold speckles and how it all came together. Voila, your project is complete!
